Scribble Climbing - Stanage Far End
Members: Nils Elgar (between 10-11am-ish)
Well my enthusiasm clearly got the better of me on this one – but guys – the weather forecast wasn’t that bad! Sure, it had absolutely poured down the previous day, but that had moved on – it was breezy and cloudy and perhaps even a little threatening early on, but it was mild and, in the hour or so I was there, there were some good periods of brightness – and there were lots of others climbing!
As promised, I arrived at the crag by 10.00am. The heavy rain in the previous 24 hours ensured the ground was truly sodden, but the mild breeze meant that the rock was generally OK – a bit of seepage from some cracks, and the greenery a little slippery, but the clean faces were excellent.
I slipped on my shoes and chalk bag and soloed The Pinion (HVD**) on the excellent End Slab and then Prospero’s Climb (VDiff**) an initial slab and ending with a layback flake. My enthusiasm saw me starting up The Crab Crawl (S 4a**) as well, but I bailed on this after a thought of an aborted 2½ week trip to Chamonix, so I down-climbed, packed up and left to pursue my other objective of the day, some essential shopping in Hathersage….
I trust I’ll have a better turnout at my Roaches trip next weekend!
Nils
