Chew Valley Walking Meet
A social walk, ending with tea and cake and pie at the Stratford house in Mossley, with a couple of route options.
Meet at Mossley station at 09.30 to catch the 09.43 train to Greenfield (£2.10) or be on the train. It leaves Victoria at 09.24 and calls at Stalybridge so if you are coming from Piccadilly, change there. From Greenfield we head through the village to Long Lane contouring under Alderman to emerge at Binn Green car park. Meet us there at 10.30 am to 10.45am if you want a shorter walk. From here we head up the reservoir and then Birchen Clough, crossing eventually to head round to Ravenstones. We follow the edges past Dovestones either dropping back down here or continuing all the way to the top Chew reservoir passing Robs Rocks on the way. Anyone wishing to make a shorter round can head down back to Binn Green at various points. There will be two route choices back to Mossley from the top Chew resevoir (if we get that far!). One drops down the Chew Road then along the Oldham way, the other continues over Wimberry and Alphin.
Total distance about 12 to 14 miles for the longest versions without much ascent or descent. ETA back at ours about 4.30pm - 5pm
Various shorter and easier circuits are possible at anything from 5 to 10 miles.
Folk are welcome at our house anytime from 3pm, so please feel free to do the shorter circuit and call round.
Trains back from Mossley to Manchester Victoria (Via Stalybridge for Piccadilly) run every hour (15.41, 16:41, 17:41, 18:41 etc)
